In times of trouble, give back!
It’s no mystery that the economy is horrible right now. It seems everyone is in a panic. People are scared and doing everything they can to hold on to their jobs and their money. We’re cutting out spending on all things unnecessary—travel, luxury, frivolous purchases and doing all we can to save a dime on necessary expenses. For many people this also means a cut back in giving. This has a huge impact on nonprofit organizations that rely on private donations for their survival. The community programs that come out of these agencies are taking a huge hit and the immediate and long term impact of this is immeasurable. In times of high stress like this it’s easy to think only of ourselves and how we are impacted. Giving back should remain a priority to all of us. Even when we can’t give back financially, it’s always possible to give of our time and energy. In doing so as is always the case with service we get much more in return when we lend a hand to others. In giving we receive. In a recession when people are experiencing a scarcity mentality it is important to dig deep and find ways to give and live out the abundance mentality. The energy of our thoughts and how we see the world is what we experience. If we believe we have enough and enough to give, then that is our truth. If we think we are without and withhold of our recourses, then we are without. Another benefit to helping others in times of personal struggle is the sense of fulfillment and peace that comes from the experience. When we are powerful enough to lend a hand to others we discover our own strength and capacity to rescue ourselves. A favorite quote of mine is “when you dig another out of their troubles, you find a place to bury your own.” In these tough times reach out to help others and experience how it comes back Full Circle.
