Giving Back to Create Abundance using the Law of Attraction
Last week I facilitated a Full Circle Forum networking event for a small group of Chicago professionals. The topic was abundance and how to create that using positive affirmations and the Law of Attraction in a time when scarcity seems to be the popular fear-based theme of the moment.
I regularly practice positive affirmations and utilize the Law of Attraction with vision boards and other intentional personal growth exercises. Despite (or perhaps due to) my high level of self-awareness and the amount of time I invest in these personal growth activities there are still times when I can’t seem to shake the blues. The past several months (with the exception of a few isolated high points) have been especially challenging.
Leading up to the event I was in a deep funk, unable to motivate myself to even prepare for the activity. As I rode my bike down to the meeting location I was thinking, “how am I going to facilitate an activity about positive affirmations when I’m in a stagnant negative state?”
Somehow facilitating the activity for other people had a greater personal impact than anytime I had previously tried to privately reflect. Throughout the exercise I could literally feel my body let go of the pressure and negativity that was built up. I experienced a complete shift that was as automatic as turning a switch. Nothing was different about my situation. The only thing that occurred was a shift in consciousness.
The activity concluded with an art project to make Random Act of Kindness cards to attract abundance by doing something for others. I use this to show on a small scale the personal healing power or “Full Circle Effect” of volunteerism and service to others. Something about giving to others has the powerful and automatic reciprocal healing impact. It was doing the activity to help others that allowed me to experience the positive shift.
The next day, on my way to lead a group service project, I was met with this breathtaking sunrise. Now that’s Abundance…

Volunteer in Chicago to help the Latino Union
Today I had a great conversation with the Development Coordinator from The Latino Union, an organization here in Chicago dedicated to helping the immigrant worker community. Like most organizations today, the Latino Union is in great need of financial and volunteer assistance.
This organization has been especially impacted by the economic crisis because the population they serve has experienced a severe increase in unemployment. The day laborers that the Latino Union help are in dire need of basic assistance. With the supply of workers greatly outweighing the need for labor, it is easier for contractors to take advantage of the workers.
It is easy to help out!
- Host a house party and collect donations from friends and family.
- Sponsor a food drive.
- Cook food and bring to the corners where the day laborers congregate to find work or drop off at the work center in Albany Park.
- Help staff a Latino Union Event. There is an opportunity coming up on May 30th to help with their fundraiser concert at The Hideout! Other events include educational weekends, summer soccer games, and salsa dances.
- And you can always host a fundraiser!
