Sing 2 Cast And Character Guide: Taking A Closer Look At The Voice Actors

The Sing 2 cast who made a successful movie in 2016, came back with another impressive performance. 

This animated sequel has a bunch of colorful characters, and the actors who give them voices are really good. Some of them were in the first movie, and some are new, but all together, they make Sing 2 strong. 

Here’s a guide to the cast and characters in Sing 2:

Matthew McConaughey as Buster Moon

 

Matthew McConaughey takes on the role of Buster Moon, a koala with big dreams, in Sing 2. Buster is determined to achieve stardom and will go to great lengths to ensure his theatre troupe reaches the top. 

McConaughey is an Oscar-winning actor known for his incredible performance in Dallas Buyers Club. He also did a great job in movies like The Lincoln Lawyer and The Wolf of Wall Street. In Sing 2, he brings Buster to life with his voice. For those who don’t know, he has also lent his voice to projects like Agent Elvis, and Kubo and the Two Strings.

Scarlett Johanson as Ash

 

In Sing 2, Scarlett Johansson voices Ash, a porcupine who rocks as a guitarist. Ash idolizes Clay Calloway and, after starting with solo gigs in nightclubs, rejoins Buster’s crew to help with their show. 

Ash plays a crucial role in convincing Clay Calloway to join their extraordinary production. Johansson, who is a two-time Oscar nominee, is widely recognized for her association with the MCU. She portrayed the role of Black Widow, which catapulted her to greater success.

Reese Witherspoon as Rosita

 

 

In the first movie, Rosita is a definite lead character, but in Sing 2, she has a more complimentary role. Her character has an interesting story, even though it’s shorter in the film. In this sequel, Rosita gets the lead role in a show but has to conquer her fear of heights to keep it. 

Apart from Sing 2, Witherspoon won an Oscar for her performance in Walk the Line, which was a Johnny Cash biopic. At present, she is mainly focusing on TV shows, and working as a producer. She has appeared in popular series like Little Fires Everywhere and Big Little Lies.

Bono As Clay Calloway

 

Bono plays a character named Clay Calloway in Sing 2. Clay used to be a famous rock star but stopped performing after his wife passed away. Even though Bono is not good at acting, he brought a lot of emotion to the role, making Clay a key part of Sing 2’s story. 

Bono is best known as a musician and a member of the band named U2. He along with his band has won 22 Grammy Awards. He is also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It’s a special treat for fans that Ash and Clay sing U2’s song “Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” in Sing 2.

Taron Egerton as Johnny

 

Taron Egerton plays the role of a gorilla named Johnny in Sing 2. Johnny has to learn dance for an important dance scene, but he is scared of his strict instructor. Eventually, a street cat named Nooshy, helps him find his rhythm in the show. 

Egerton is most famous for playing Eggsy in the Kingsman movies. He received a lot of praise for his role in 2019’s Rocketman. His portrayal of Elton John got him the Best Actor Award at the Golden Globe.

Tori Kelly as Meena

 

Tori Kelly returns as the voice of Meena in Sing 2. In the movie, Meena is an elephant who has to sing a love song with an arrogant performer. But she has no chemistry with him. She later falls in love with a male elephant, an ice cream seller. This helped her gain confidence and performance in the show. 

Tori Kelly first gained recognition on American Idol season 9, making it to Hollywood. Even though she was eliminated, Kelly continued her career and became a successful singer. She even won a Grammy for her music.

Nick Kroll as Gunter

 

Gunter, a lively dancing pig is voiced by Nick Kroll in Sing 2. Gunter is a happy pig who loves to dance and contributes a lot to the stage. He plays a supporting role in the movie. When Jimmy Crystal rejects Buster’s initial idea, Gunter steps in with his stage show, which gets approved. 

For those unaware, Kroll is mainly a comedian. He is best known for his work in animation, and co-created Big Mouth. He has also done voice work in other movies like Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, The Addams Family, and The Secret Life of Pets 2.

Halsey as Porsha Crystal

 

Jimmy Crystal’s daughter Porsha Crystal is voiced by singer Halsey. When Porsha steps onto the stage show, she wants a part, and her father insists they give her one. However, Porsha turns out to be a not-so-great actor, causing a lot of conflict between Mr. Crystal and Buster Moon.

Halsey is a good choice for Porsha’s voice because she is a singer. Halsey is known for her incredible music and has sold over one million albums. Some of you may not know but she was a part of the voice actor cast in the animated film, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies.

Bobby Cannavale as Jimmy Crystal

 

Jimmy Crystal’s voice is done by Bobby Cannavale in Sing 2. Crystal is the owner of Crystal Entertainment and offers Buster Moon the opportunity to stage his show in his theatre. However, he turns out to be the villain, repeatedly threatening Moon’s life. Crystal is a tough and challenging character.

Cannavale is famous for his roles in shows like Boardwalk Empire and Will & Grace. He won an Emmy Award for his excellent acting. He is also known for his work in Ant-Man movies, where he portrayed Jim Paxton.
