The Land Before Time Movies in Order: Enjoy a Ride into Simplicity

This movie series revolves around a group of bubbly dinosaurs. 2. The Land Before Time II: The Great Valley Adventure (1994)

Following their last adventure, the prehistoric pals now live a life of pleasure and delight in the lush green Great Valley with their families. A new adventure ensues, however, they soon find themselves in the “Mysterious Beyond” forced to encounter experiences that are to leave a mark on their memories forever. 

They encounter a couple of egg-snatching Struthiomimuses, experience and survive a humongous landslide, and witness two T-Rexes fighting. The best part of their adventure is when they see a T-Rex egg hatching. At the end of the day, the young dinosaurs realize and accept how difficult it can be to be a grownup as they return safely to their families after another nerve-racking adventure.

3. The Land Before Time (III): The Time of the Great Giving (1995)

Set against the backdrop of a lush and vibrant primeval world, this movie in the series features some brilliant songs. The movie’s plot is all about sharing and caring. When a huge meteorite hits the Earth, the inhabitants of the peaceful Great Valley find themselves cut off from all water supplies. 

The five dinosaur pals set out on yet another adventure, dodging neighborhood dinosaur bullies, and encountering fierce fires and velociraptors. They again end up in the Mysterious Beyond, in the land of the fearsome Sharpteeth, to find pools of water or any other source of water supply for the families in the Great Valley.

4. The Land Before Time IV: Journey Through the Mists (1996)

This particular movie shifts from its usual manner of childish adventures and instead features more coming-of-age storytelling. When the Longnecks come bearing news that the land that lay outside the Great Valley, which had even till then been dry land, has now suddenly become a land of mists. The longnecks report that they have seen new and weird creatures emerging out of that mist as they keep invading high branches of trees and other places which even till recently had been safe roaming grounds. 

Everything is still perfect in the Great Valley but that is until Littlefoot’s Grandpa is fallen ill. The only way to cure him is to get him to eat the healing petals of a golden night flower that grows in the Land of Mist. The five friends, and Ali, a new inclusion to the team, have to now embark on this nerve-wracking journey, facing off sly villains and realizing once again how important friendships are.

5. The Land Before Time V: The Mysterious Island (1997)

Packed with delightful animation and memorable songs, the adventure series of the young prehistoric pals continues. This time the lush green and ever-fertile Great Valley suffers tremendous damage when a flock of “Swarming Leaf Gobblers” descend on the Great Valley and make it almost barren. The families need to move till the Great Valley trees regain their greenery.

6. The Land Before Time VI: The Secret of Saurus Rock (1998)

Twin baby Threehorns named Dinah and Dana run off to the edge of the Great Valley, to the Saurus Rock. There are legends surrounding the place as to how there lives a lone Longneck dinosaur named Doc. The Doc is rumored to defeat the Sharpteeh with his lass-like tail! 

The team of the five young dinosaurs would soon find out if that was true or not as they set out to search for the young twins. They come across adventures and experiences that are to shape them hereafter and learn about handling changes and responsibilities along the way.

7. The Land Before Time VII: The Stone of Cold Fire (2000)

Adding a new taste to the The Land Before Time movie series, this one is a full feature-length movie. This time Littlefoot is faced with a dilemma. He witnesses a magnificent sight of, what he believes to be, a stone of cold fire. According to Littlefoot, it had shot out of and through the night sky and had landed somewhere in the Smoking Mountains. 

Unfortunately, no one wants to believe him except for Petrie’s uncle Pterano. He is a long lost uncle of Petrie but not much is known about him. So when he encourages Littlefoot to solve the mystery behind that stone of cold fire and find it, no one can guess what his actual motive is. Loaded with suspense and with adventure waiting around every corner, this was a rather unique addition to the series.

8. The Land Before Time VIII: The Big Freeze (2001)

This time the plot of the movie goes back to the same old rhythm where friendships take on the test of time. Initially, as the Great Valley experiences its first snowfall, the dinosaurs are elated. However, they soon realise that this would on the contrary pose a threat to their survival. When they hear of Stegosaurus arriving in Great Valley, Spike becomes fascinated with them and joins them to escape the freeze.

9. The Land Before Time IX: Journey to Big Water (2002)

Yet another mesmerizingly delightful addition to The Land Before Time movie series, this one also features some unforgettable songs along with adventures that teach us much about life. When the Great Valley experiences incessant showers of rain, a pool of “new water” is formed. 

Littlefoot sets out to explore his Great Valley and on such an occasion comes across and befriends a dolphin-like creature. It had lost its way and wandered into this new body of water and now could not get back home.

10. The Land Before Time X: The Great Longneck Migration (2003)

This time the adorable prehistoric pals set out on an expedition that could easily be categorised as the most spectacular of the entire The Land Before Time movie series. It all starts when Littlefoot’s grandparents tell the gang a strange “sleep story”. 

The ever-curious group of young friends get excited to live out the reality of the story. In the process, they come across all sorts of adventures, learn lessons of life, and even meet a rare variety of Longnecks.

11. The Land Before Time XI: Invasion of the Tinysauruses (2005)

The day of the flyers is a very important day in the Great Valley and everyone is excited to see how the events of the day go about. 

When anxiety tightens around Petrie, at the thought of failure, even as the other prehistoric pals try to help him out, Guido enters the scene. He tells them how it is very necessary to “be yourself” and just that would solve a lot of problems.

Loofah and Doofah, two yellow-bellied Beipiaosauruses have lost their way. They are residents of the Berry Valley, but on their journey have lost their way and now cannot go back home. Littlefoot and the gang decide to help them out. In the process, the little dinosaurs develop inseparable bonds of friendship. 

They realize in a new way how important friends are and how crucial it is to embrace differences and still be unified. The tale is a mesmerizing one filled with adorable animation and delightfully memorable songs.

14. The Land Before Time XIV: Journey of the Brave (2016)

Released after a long break this movie is the last of the The Land Before Time movies, at least as of now. This movie has a much more mature storyline where Littlefoot and his friends must find out about Littlefoot’s missing father. 

As they set out on this grave adventure the company befriends other individuals on the way too such as Etta and Wild Arms. The lesson that this adventure teaches them is that they can take on any situation provided they remain together and undivided.
