Aurora to partner up with Fiat Chrysler to develop self-driving commercial vans

Aurora, which is a start-up on autonomous vehicle technology has finally ended up breaking a deal with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles to develop self-driving commercial cars. Aurora is now backed by Amazon and Sequoia Capital.

The partnership between Fiat Chrysler and Aurora will focus on the technology developed by Aurora into FCA’s line of Ram Truck commercial vehicles. This portfolio includes both trucks and vans. According to Tech Crunch, this deal might end up extending to FCA’s Fiat Professional brand.

The deal between both the companies basically aims to develop self-driving cars which can be used for commercial purposes. They are planning to design self-driving commercial vans which they can sell to Amazon. Amazon can use this self-driving trucks for deliveries. Both the companies have kept quiet about the financial part of the deal. The cost of developing such an efficient autonomous vehicle is very high. This is the reason FCA has partnered up to help make this project come to life.

In the month of May, the FCS ended up putting a proposal of 50-50 merger with Renault thinking that it will help create more capital efficient enterprise so that they can develop global platforms for vehicles, architectures, and technologies. After this, FCA has withdrawn its offer for a merger.

FCA CEO Mike Manley said in a statement:

“As part of FCA’s autonomous vehicle strategy, we will continue to work with strategic partners in this space to address the needs of consumers in a rapidly changing industry.”

FCA already has a partnership with a company called Waymo which is backed by the moonshot project from Google. The business is now running under Alphabet. About 2 years back, FCA said that they will be producing a total of 100 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans along with the system which will be designed by Waymo One. These vehicles still have a human being behind the wheel for safety purposes.

Aurora has never shown any kind of interest in designing robotaxi like Waymo and this is the reason they have been chosen so that the whole focus of the project is just self-driving vans which can be used for commercial purposes.

Aurora was founded in the year 2017 by Chris Urmson, Drew Bagnell and Sterling Anderson and till now they have been successfully able to integrate their technology into six vehicle platforms which include Class 8 truck, large commercial vehicle, minivans, SUV and Sedan.

4K TV In Place Of A Forward Window in NASA’s X-59 Supersonic Jet

NASA’s X-59 QueSST supersonic jet is going to have a cockpit like no one else. It is expected to feature a big 4k screen instead of a forward window. If you ask why? Well, this is a weird looking plane.

The X-59 is being designed and developed by Lockheed Martin on a budget of $247 million. The plan is supposed to be faster than the speed of sound and that too without producing any noise or sonic boom. The aircraft is going to be as silent as it can get.

In order to accomplish the very design, the plane needs to be as aerodynamic as possible. This precludes the cockpit bump that is often present in fighter jets. The design of the plane will not have the pilot up front with a big forward window. That’s because it’s going to be too far narrow.

The cockpit looks more like a section taken out of an aircraft over the leading edge of the small shaped wings. This basically means that you are going to enjoy a lovely view on the sides but for the front, all you can see is the nose.

In order to fix this, the aircraft will be equipped with multiple displays. It is going to have a 4K display in the front. It will display imagery joined together from two exterior cameras of the plane.

It is expected that pilots will gradually get used to it as they spend a lot of time in simulators. They can take a look at the real world right outside the other windows.

The plane is currently under progress and some parts are yet to be designed. This is going to be an experimental aircraft but the most advanced one made by the company in the last 30 years.

Details Of New Pixel 4 Xl And Pixel 4 Is Finally Out

It is no more a secret that Pixel 4 is soon going to be launched by Google as the company itself leaked some details about the device in a teaser with an image. Based on the details, we can assume that the design is going to be much better than its predecessor. Not just that, but it will also have a sport multi-lens back camera. This is going to look similar to iPhone’s 11’s set-up. Although the company hasn’t confirmed the design rumours has it that it is going to feature a display with full bezels. It will even include two cameras along with some components for 3D facial recognition.

One of the leakers who previously posted about Pixel 4 design is now back with its measurement details.

The smaller model is going to have a 5.6 inch or 5.8-inch display. It is estimated to be 147 x 68.9 x 8.2 mm thick and goes up to 9.3 mm in the corner where the camera is located. In comparison to Pixel 4, Pixel 3 is slightly smaller as it has a 5.5-inch display and 146.6 x 68.2 x 7.9 mm thickness.

On the other hand, the bigger model is going to be around 6.2 inch or 6.4 inches. It is going to be 160.4 x 75.2 x 8 mm thick. Even the camera is thicker at 9.3 mm. The display of Pixel 4 XL is indeed taller and better than its predecessor.

Both the phones are going to be slightly taller and wider in comparison to their predecessors. Well, that’s what we assume from the given measurements. It is believed that the company has reduced the bezels while increasing the size of both the phone’s screen.

The target checkouts have been hit by an outage for the second day in a row

Another day and there is another Target checkout outage. A lot of people took up social media to complain against the checkouts at the retail giant’s server went down for the second consecutive day. This ended up stores taking only gift cards and cash as the form of payment. Target is suffering through a point of sale machine outage from Saturday. The Checkout servers were down for more than two hours.

Target said in a statement yesterday that it could:

“confirm that this was not a data breach or security-related issue” and “no guest information was compromised at any time.” Instead, the company blamed the outage on an “internal technology issue” without disclosing specifics.

Target was forced to pay a total of $162 million in expenses because of the data breach in the year 2013. Target does not want something like that to be repeated now.

Jenna Rech, who is a spokesperson from Target said in a statement:

“Like many other companies, Target uses NCR as a vendor to help accept payments, and on Sunday afternoon NCR experienced an issue at one of their data centers. While this was not an issue within Target’s technology system, Target was unable to process select card payments at some stores for about 90 minutes. The issue is now resolved and payments are going through normally. Additionally, we can confirm that this was not a security-related issue and no payment information was compromised at any time. Although this was unrelated to Saturday’s issue, we know many guests had a frustrating shopping experience in our stores this weekend. For that, we are truly sorry. We never want to disappoint any guests and we’re working tirelessly to ensure these issues don’t happen again.”
